AQUILLA J. MORGAN HIGH SCHOOL EARNS NATIONAL RECOGNITION FOR SUSTAINABLE DESIGN

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

TAMPA, FL (April 10, 2026) — Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS) is proud to announce that Aquilla J. Morgan High School has received national recognition for its commitment to sustainable construction, earning an Architectural Award from the Slag Cement Association (SCA) as part of the 2025 Slag Cement in Sustainable Concrete Awards Program.

The award recognizes outstanding use of slag cement in concrete construction projects across the United States. Aquilla J. Morgan High School, the district’s 29th high school that opened this school year, was among 14 projects nationwide honored for advancing durable, resilient, and lower‑carbon concrete solutions. The winning projects were announced on April 1, 2026, during the spring American Concrete Institute (ACI) Concrete Convention in Rosemont, Illinois.

Slag cement, a supplementary cementitious material, is recognized for its ability to enhance concrete durability while reducing the carbon footprint associated with traditional cement. The awards program celebrates exemplary projects that demonstrate these performance and sustainability benefits across multiple construction sectors.

“This recognition reflects our district’s commitment to building schools that are not only high‑quality and functional, but also thoughtfully designed with long‑term sustainability in mind,” said Christopher Farkas, Deputy Superintendent, Operations. “Aquilla J. Morgan High School represents how responsible construction practices can support student learning environments while being good stewards of our community’s resources.”
